Devolution/Devilution is about a world moving in the wrong direction; not evolving, but devolving. The wordplay says it all, Devolution means regression, going backwards. Devilution twists that into something darker; progress turning corrupt, destructive, almost demonic. Their version of development becomes self-made hell. We’re led by the “deaf, dumb and blind” narcissistic leaders warped by power, greed and ideology, who call themselves “superior,” yet that “superiority” has built a system hell-bent on self-destruction.
The video mirrors this idea. Filmed and edited by Martijn Bastiaans in a rehearsal space, we gradually turn into skeletons, a literal take on “backwards evolution.” Strip away the illusion of progress, and in the end, only bones remain.
