MOUTH OF MADNESS set release date for debut album

Darkness Shall Rise Productions announces July 16th as the international release date for Mouth of Madness‚ debut album, Event Horizon, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

Germany’s Mouth of Madness are not among the most prolific bands, to put it mildly. Despite having been incepted in 2013, so far, there’s only one self-titled EP to their name, which was released as far back as 2016. Be that as it may, in the shadows and thus undisturbed and wholly unaffected by pressure or expectations, the band have steadily worked on new music.

Finally, almost 10 years after the release of the EP, it’s with great delight that the long in-the-making first full-length of Mouth of Madness is finally about to be released by Darkness Shall Rise on various formats.

Anyone who has had a chance to listen to the exceptionally good EP will probably agree that Event Horizon basically picks up where the duo left off after the EP. The album comprises nine songs, of which three are great ambient pieces respectively titled „Transhimalaya I, II, III“ and created by no less than one of the founders of ambient, pioneers Popol Vuh. The remaining six tracks showcase an inspired band’s curious take on metal that, due to its originality, defies being easily tagged. It’s likely no stretch to claim the bulk of Mouth of Madness‚ compositions rely on death metal. At least, some of the riffing undeniably reeks of Morbid Angel and early Swedish Death Metal with some aggressive black metal thrown in for good measure, but instead of being a straight death metal album, Event Horizon also incorporates plenty of doomy and epic parts. The most ambitious song of the album, the labyrinthine „Fireborn,“ best embodies this blend.

Mouth of Madness should appeal to fans of Tribulation, Venenum, Chapel of Disease, and anyone into death metal in general that appreciates originality.
