PUNKCAKE release new single Fake Swing

After the loud and visceral explosion of “No Pants,” Punkcake return with “Fake Swing”, the new single available on all digital platforms via Rude Records: Punkcake „Fake Swing“ (Official Music Video)

The track represents another step toward “SIAMO QUI SIAMO QUESTI”, the band first album of original material, due out on Friday, June 26.

With “Fake Swing,” Punkcake shift the focus from collective anger to a more intimate and painful dimension, without losing the emotional tension and sonic urgency that define their path. The result is an intense and layered track that alternates vulnerability with emotional impact, keeping alive that noise and post-punk attitude that already drew attention during the band’s journey on X Factor 2024.

The song describes how people often choose to take refuge in memories and illusions to avoid truly facing the pain of loss. It is an emotional swing destined to inevitably break, forcing a confrontation with what was being ignored:

“Fake Swing is about how it is easier to surrender to memories and to the imagined version one has of a person who is unwell, rather than facing pain head-on and dealing with the darkest parts of suffering. One rocks oneself in this swing of illusions, which is ultimately fake and will sooner or later make us fall flat on our face, reminding us that the only way to overcome grief is not to pretend nothing is happening, but to step into it fully, walk through it, live it until it fades on its own. To surrender, therefore, not to nostalgia but to the sensations of the present, here and now.”

In the song, direct and desperate writing intertwines with a sonic crescendo that amplifies a sense of anxiety, emotional dependence, and fear of abandonment. Lines like “don’t die before I do” become an obsessive and fragile mantra, suspended between a plea and a rejection of reality.

Punkcake thus continue to build a deeply identifiable artistic path, where fragility and chaos coexist without filters. A project that chooses to transform generational discomfort into something physical, collective, and viscerally human.

With “Fake Swing,” the band further confirms its intention to portray the most uncomfortable side of emotions without mediation, further anticipating the world of “SIAMO QUI SIAMO QUESTI”: an album that promises to be loud, vulnerable, and necessary.
