On May 22nd internationally, Dying Victims Productions and Electric Assault Records will release the third album of Sweden’s Tyrann, Tyrann Forever: Dying Victims will handle the CD version while Electric Assault will handle the vinyl version.
Since their formation in 2018, Sweden’s Tyrann have quickly become a gold standard for rustic, turn-of-the-‘80s hard-rockin’ heavy metal…or perhaps that should be “heavy metalling hard rock”? Either way, the quartet have handily transcended their esteemed pedigree – members do or have done time in the likes of Enforcer and Tribulation – across two full-lengths, 2021’s Djävulens musik and 2023’s Besatt, both showing acute focus and finesse but all done with a seemingly effortless air and a touch of evil.
Now, Tyrann return with arguably their best record yet, Tyrann Forever. Aptly titled, Tyrann Forever sees the Swedes running through their whole arsenal – thunder & lightning heavy metal, straight-between-the-eyes hard rock, moody & magickal AOR, and the galloping early Maiden-gone-punk of their earliest days – with an aplomb that’s patient and breathless simultaneously. The songwriting’s as taut as it comes, with eight songs spanning a half-hour, but Tyrann pack each to the gills with hooks that are stripped-down yet sublime. That they can somehow take garage ethics to stadium dynamics circa 1981 is some strange alchemy, to be sure, but it only serves to make their already-intimate personality that much more ingratiating. Tyrann Forever? Fucking indeed!
